Technical SEO is working to optimize a website’s technical elements in order to improve search rankings and the user experience. It’s a key ingredient in a healthy SEO strategy, so today, we’re going over some of the most essential components of technical SEO.

#1: Optimize Page Elements

Technical SEO and on-page SEO go hand in hand, and adjusting your website’s page’s elements can help make your site faster and more navigable. Make sure your title tags and meta descriptions are a proper length and format. This helps search engines (and users!) understand your content. Add alt text to images. And speaking of images, make sure yours aren’t too big to load quickly on the page!

We know this is a lot to cover, especially if you have a lot of pages on your website. For this reason, many businesses employ agencies like ours to conduct thorough SEO audits, which can help them understand where they have major problem areas, and which problems should have the greatest priority.

#2: Improve Site Indexability

There are lots of ways to help search engines crawl and index your site, but one of the most important is site architecture, which basically refers to how your pages are interlinked. Try to ensure that all – or at least most – of your pages are accessible in under three clicks. Also, make sure that redirects are functioning properly and that there are no error pages.

Relevance Advisors provides a crawl map that lets clients visualize how search engines view their websites, which can help them determine which pages are more difficult to find and access.

#3: Increase Site Speed

Page speed can have a huge impact on search rankings, because it directly affects the user experience. If users aren’t staying on your website because it’s taking too long to load, that will influence your website’s success and how well you rank.

We use PageSpeed Insights and other tools to evaluate website speed and performance. From there, we can help clients understand the improvements needed to both the desktop and mobile versions of their website.
