Your Guide to Google Ads Specs

Last week, we went over the ad specs on Meta’s platforms. This week’s guide will help you understand some of Google Ads’ different ad types, and the ad specs* most important for you to keep in mind when designing your ads. Let’s begin!

*These ad specs are adapted from Google's official ad guide. Recommendations may differ for other ad placements not listed here.

 

Search Ads

Responsive Search Ads allow advertisers to reach people on Google Search with relevant text ads that test different combinations of headlines and descriptions to find what resonates with customers.

  • Business Name
    • 25 characters
  • Business Logo (1:1)
    • Recommended size: 1200 x 1200 pixels
      Min. size: 128 x 128 pixels
  • Headlines (up to 15)
    • Under 30 characters
  • Descriptions (up to 4)
    • Under 90 characters
  • Ad Assets (may appear with your Search Ads)
    • Landscape image (1.91:1) - 1-20 images
      • Recommended size: 1200 x 628 pixels
        Min. size: 600 x 314 pixels
    • Square image (1:1) - 1-20 images
      • Recommended size: 600 x 600 pixels
        Min. size: 300 x 300 pixels

 

Display Ads

Responsive Display Ads use multiple assets to generate unique combinations of creative in order to best engage users. 

  • Logos (up to 5 logos)
    • Landscape logo (4:1)
      • Recommended size: 1200 x 300 pixels
        Min. size: 512 x 128 pixels
    • Square logo (1:1)
      • Recommended size: 1200 x 1200 pixels
        Min. size: 128 x 128 pixels
  • Images for the creative (up to 15 images, these images should not contain text)
    • At least one Landscape image (1.91:1)
      • Recommended size: 1200 x 628 pixels
        Min. size: 600 x 314 pixels
    • At least one Square image (1:1)
      • Recommended size: 600 x 600 pixels
        Min. size: 300 x 300 pixels
  • Videos (optional, up to 5)
    • Horizontal (16:9)
      • Recommended length: 30 seconds
    • Square (1:1)
      • Recommended length: 30 seconds
    • Vertical (2:3)
      • Recommended length: 30 seconds
  • Headlines (up to 5)
    • Under 30 characters
  • Long Headline (only 1)
    • Under 90 characters
  • Descriptions (up to 5)

Video Ads

There are many different types of Video Ads that can appear on YouTube and other partner sites. 

  • Skippable and Non-Skippable In-Stream
    • Horizontal Video (16:9) 
      • 1920 x 1080 pixels
    • Vertical Video (9:16) 
      • 1080 x 1920 pixels
    • Square Video (1:1) 
      • 1080 x 1080 pixels
    • Headline/Description
      • Under 15 characters
  • In-Feed (15 seconds)
    • Horizontal Video (16:9)

    • Vertical Video (9:16)

  • Bumper (6 seconds)

Performance Max Ads

Performance Max campaigns allow advertisers to advertise across Google’s channels, like Search, Display, and YouTube.

  • Logos (up to 5 logos)
    • Landscape logo (4:1)
      • Recommended size: 1200 x 300 pixels
        Min. size: 512 x 128 pixels
    • Square logo (1:1)
      • Recommended size: 1200 x 1200 pixels
        Min. size: 128 x 128 pixels
  • Images for the creative (up to 15 images, these images should not contain text)
    • At least one Landscape image (1.91:1)
      • Recommended size: 1200 x 628 pixels
        Min. size: 600 x 314 pixels
    • At least one Square image (1:1)
      • Recommended size: 600 x 600 pixels

      • Recommended size: 960 x 1200 pixels
