Microsoft Clarity is a user behavior analytics tool used by over 100k websites globally. Its purpose is to help website owners understand how people are interacting with their site. Read on to learn more about how Clarity works, and how you can use it to “enhance the user experience”.
Clarity offers four main features that help provide information on user behavior: session recordings, heatmaps, insights, and the ability to connect with Google Analytics. Let’s go over each one in more detail.
Session Recordings: With session recordings, you can watch your website’s activity over the past 30 days, allowing you to better understand how people navigate your website, why they leave, and more.
Heatmaps: This feature provides a visual representation of the areas of pages on your website that drive the most engagement or conversions. Click heatmaps will reveal the elements on your site with the highest engagement, while conversion heatmaps will reveal those elements that drove conversions. Scroll heatmaps will show how far users scrolled, and area heatmaps will calculate total clicks in an area of the page.
Insights: Clarity can provide insight into frustration points for users. Are users clicking the same area over and over again (rage clicking)? Are they navigating to broken pages and exiting immediately (quickbacks)? Clarity’s insights allow you to figure out what was happening when an error occurred so you can fix it.
Google Analytics: Clarity can easily connect with Google Analytics, which allows you to gain additional insights as to why users are interacting with your site in a certain way. You can even explore your Google Analytics metrics from the Clarity dashboard! You can also integrate Clarity with a variety of other popular apps, including Google Ads, HubSpot, and Zapier. Check out Clarity’s list of third-party platforms here.
Clarity helps websites optimize functionality, improve the customer experience, and even increase conversions. By allowing site owners to glean information surrounding the context of a user’s site navigation journey, it’s easier to identify problem-areas that may be impacting overall performance.
Best of all, Clarity is (and always will be) free, making it accessible to everyone, from big businesses to small shops.
