As AI-powered tools continue to rise in popularity, tech giants like Google are racing to invest in and implement AI wherever they can. A few months ago, Google introduced Gemini, a generative AI model that can answer users' questions on Search or directly. Now, it is using this same model to revamp Google Shopping with a number of new AI-powered features. Here’s what’s new and improved.
Google claims that its AI will help to provide more relevant product suggestions to online shoppers. Now, when you search for a type of product (ie. “swim trunks for women”), you’ll see a short brief at the top of the results that reads “Researched with AI”, which will provide more information about your search and other things that you may want to consider.
In our example, the AI overview talks about the different styles of women’s swim trunks, and the benefits of being made with certain materials. It also mentions that bright colors are trending in 2024.
Underneath the AI overview, you’ll see recommended products with descriptions of what they are and why they’re a fit for what you’re looking for. In our swim trunks example, Google shows examples of high-waisted swim trunks, sporty swim shorts, and shorter-length swim trunks. Underneath that, you’ll see more traditional shopping results.
Google Shopping’s search filters have also gotten an upgrade. Users can use updated dynamic filters to find nearby options or certain sizes. Classic filters that narrow results by categories such as brand or color are still available as well.
Google Shopping now has a new home page with a personalized feed. Certain shopping categories or “Brand deals you may like” will be available to peruse through.
In Google’s announcement, it recognizes that many people often take several days or even weeks to decide on a product. This new home page will allow users to continue from where they left off in the shopping process, so that they don’t have to start from scratch.
If, however, you’d prefer not to have a quite-so personalized feed, you can update your shopping preferences.
Google Shopping is making it easier than ever for users to find deals and low prices. Instead of hoping you’re getting the best deal available, you can use price tracking and insights to guarantee it. And instead of opening up multiple tabs to compare product pricing, you can use Google’s price comparison feature to find the best deal on a product! For savings-savvy shoppers, this comparison tool is perhaps the most important.
