Copilot, presented by Microsoft as “your everyday AI companion,” is a chatbot that leverages AI to help advertisers create and launch their ads. While Microsoft Copilot has had limited availability since 2023, it is now being made available to more Microsoft advertisers as it transitions from beta testing to general availability. Today, we’re talking about the current state of Copilot’s rollout, and how paid search advertisers will be able to incorporate it into their advertising strategy.

What is Microsoft Copilot?

Copilot is Microsoft’s answer to the generative AI boom that has had other tech giants like Google and Facebook hurrying to develop and launch their own AI-powered advertising features. The chatbot can answer advertiser’s questions about Microsoft Advertising, share links to relevant articles, and even help advertisers develop unique headlines, descriptions, and image suggestions. You can still speak with a real person if Copilot fails to help you, especially as it’s still in the early phases. To that end, Microsoft is asking users to help them evaluate Copilot’s responses with “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” feedback that developers can use to refine the model.

Why Microsoft Copilot is Important

There are obvious benefits to having powerful AI assist advertisers. Users can save time and be provided with individualized inspiration for their ads at the push of a button. Copilot provides a more efficient way to create ads or assist users with logistics that, consequently, allows users to focus more on the optimization aspects of advertising. It can answer all sorts of questions about Microsoft Advertising, from, “How do I make a payment on Microsoft?” to “How do I create a campaign?” to “How can I increase ad CTR?”. It’s a great starting point for people who need help with the platform.

Beyond just being a useful tool, Copilot is also the latest example of generative AI’s importance in our world today. Many, many large companies have developed or are developing some AI-powered tools to assist their employees and/or customers, either in the workplace or in their day-to-day lives.

What’s Next for Copilot?

As Microsoft continues to roll out Copilot to more and more advertisers, we can assume that, eventually, all advertisers will have access to this invaluable tool. In the meantime, advertisers who do have Copilot are encouraged to offer any feedback that can assist Microsoft in improving the tool in advance of its rollout to all users.
