If you’ve ever made a purchase online, you’ve engaged with one of the hundreds of thousands of eCommerce businesses that exist on the Internet. But how did you decide to make that purchase? Chances are, you did a little research before making your final decision. You may have seen some social media ads for the business, or some shopping ads of products relevant to what you were looking for? These are just a couple examples of eCommerce marketing.

Today, we’re going to take a deep dive into the world of eCommerce. What is it, and how are eCommerce businesses marketed to consumers?

What is an eCommerce Store?

An eCommerce store is basically a business where customers can buy things online. There are many different platforms that people can use to run their eCommerce businesses, but by far the most popular one is Shopify, which supports thousands of businesses worldwide.

What is eCommerce Marketing?

Simply put, eCommerce marketing is just driving awareness to an online business. Given this broad definition, eCommerce marketing can take many forms. It might involve using social media, paid search ads, or email campaigns, among other forms of advertising. Here are some of the most common services we offer.

Paid Search

One of the most common ways to advertise eCommerce businesses is through paid search or PPC, where advertisers bid to have their ads to appear in the search results of Google, Bing, and other search engines. These ads can appear when a person types a query related to the eCommerce business; the query could be anything from the name of the business to the products it sells.

Paid Social

Another popular way of advertising eCommerce businesses is with paid social, where advertisers pay social media channels to promote the business to potential consumers. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter are some of the most popular social media platforms for advertisers. What these ads look like can vary widely platform to platform; the common thread between them is simply that they are on social media.

Shopping Ads

Finally, shopping ads on platforms like Google Shopping are an excellent way for eCommerce stores to advertise their products to customers, because they include real-time information about the product’s availability and pricing. On Google, these ads can appear on Google Search, Display, and Partner Websites. Usually, they’ll appear when a customer makes a relevant search, or when they’ve already looked at the product but haven’t yet converted. The customer will be able to see the name and price of the product, as well as an image. Clicking on the ad will take them straight to that particular product’s page.
