Back in January, we wrote about ChatGPT Search, a search engine that uses the power of AI to find and pull timely information for users. Now, OpenAI has introduced a web browser that takes ChatGPT’s integration with users’ internet activities to a whole new level.
ChatGPT Atlas, or just Atlas, allows the AI tool to “come with you anywhere across the web”. Today, we’re discussing some key features, and what’s next for OpenAI.
Ask ChatGPT: Do you want ChatGPT to analyze, summarize, or compare content that you’re viewing? With Atlas, ChatGPT can be opened as a sidebar in any window by clicking “Ask ChatGPT”. The AI tool will immediately see details of the page you’re on, meaning it will have the context needed to answer your questions in a helpful way. You can also highlight text and quickly request help that way.
Use Media to Search: Users can search using more than just text. You can search with images, videos, and news articles to find what you need.
Personalized Recommendations: Like other browsers, Atlas will remember the things you’ve already searched for. ChatGPT will recommend pages, topics, and even automated processes that are based on previous activities. You can archive irrelevant memories, or delete them permanently.
Agent Mode: ChatGPT can interact with sites on your behalf. You can ask it to close tabs, re-open a site, or research a trip. If you are on a site with sensitive information (such as a banking website), it will pause and make sure that the user is watching it take specific actions.
Privacy: Similar to other popular browsers, Atlas has an incognito mode that will temporarily log you out of ChatGPT. You can also clear browsing history or permanently delete your chat history at any time.
Parental Controls: Parents can turn off browser memories and agent mode, and any parental controls set for ChatGPT will be applied to the chatbot in Atlas.
Atlas is currently only available for macOS. We can expect OpenAI to make Atlas available to other operating systems soon, and add more and more features as time goes on. Users can follow the release of new features here.
If you use a Mac, you can download Atlas here.
